EASTER! It is quite an event with my family. And like always we had big plans and big expectations for this year. My Mom, Karl, and Tia flew in from D.C. the day before Easter and the entire family immediately gathered for lunch, dying eggs, and frosting gluten free sugar cookies (mmmm!). We did, however have trouble getting the little boys to want to come dye eggs with us. For one, new cool uncle of the year nominee, Tony, brought Harrison his birthday present which was real golf clubs (And the crowd goes wild!). It was as expected a HUGE success. Carter on the other hand was busy suffering from the Sponge-Bob-Pocks when he wasn't busy watching big brother. I love his mini-Beiber-ness. Check out that hair. Like baby baby baby oooohh! :)

Then it was on to shopping and prepping for the big Easter brunch. In our family we really only eat one meal on Easter. Brunch. Mega Brunch. The menu always consists of carmel pull-apart, strawberries and special dip, quiche, honey baked ham, funeral potatoes, layered salad or seafood louis salad, asparagus, deviled eggs, market street fruit tart, and almond punch. Honestly from the door it looked like a true feast. I'm pretty sure I saw cartoon steam lines radiating from everything on the table and the sun was shining on the ham just perfect to make it glow. Why didn't we just come in and chow down? Why did this brunch look better than any other meal ever had before?? Because it was untouchable. I'll explain further down.

Do you love these hats?? One of my former neighbors from the 16th ward, Tim Coons and his wife Ashley hand knit adorable baby hats (See their Etsy shop HERE -The lamb hat kills me. I need one so bad! What a perfect baby shower gift) and when I saw them I knew that we had to have them. They made our Easter rituals complete. Every year we do an adult easter egg hunt and there are some money eggs so we all take it seriously :) but the number one rule of our egg hunts since we were children is that you must wear your rabbit ears or you can't hunt. If your ears fall off you can't continue until they are back on. We have gone through a gamit of bunny ears. We have made paper ears, used store bought soft ears, inflatable ears, but none of them have stood the test of time. When I saw these beautiful hand crafted hats, I knew they would be the answer. Maybe we will even have them embroidered some day with our names on the back as if they are our prized mickey mouse ears ha ha. We even had two extra baby sized hats made so that next year my sisters' babies will not miss out. But we did over look one slight detail... the dog. Wrigley needs ears! Tim, Ashley, if you are reading this, you have got to create a hat with a velcro closure at the bottom for our babydog. Let me know.
Is something missing? Where is my love, Dane? Well...On our way to Easter we decided we better stop by Urgent Care at our doctors office just merely as a precaution since Dane had had the flu earlier in the week and was starting to feel better but had a funny rash all over his body. He had missed 3 days of work (which is a no-no when you are still in your 3 month training program, but his work was really great!) and we wanted to be sure that everything was fine before he went back to work the next day. Well as soon as the doctor walked in the room and before he could say a word, it was like a veil was lifted, newspaper articles flashed before my eyes, things started making sense and I blurted out 'Don't worry, It's Not the measles!' He asked us some questions and told Dane he really thought he may have the measles. Dang it. So he was put on an immediate quarantine until we could get blood work to confirm or deny the doctors suspicion. Which in a nutshell meant no brunch, no adult egg hunt, no easter. We knew that we couldn't be around my sister who is 8 1/2 months pregnant and my sister in law who is 15 weeks pregnant and didn't want to chance getting anyone else sick. But since my family is super cool they told us to come pick up a mini brunch to go and that we could watch the little boys do the kid egg hunt in the front yard.

Easter was great, even if it was quiet. We were sad to have missed out of some quality fam time but glad to have been apart of what we were and thankful to have the opportunity to celebrate the true reason of Easter.

yeah, a new blog! Holy long hair Amy! Even if I tried for years, there would be no way I could get my hair that length. Hope you feel better Dane.
LOVE the bunny hats!! So stinkin cute! Looks like it was fun! Hope Dane is doing better!
Fun fun Easter stuff, those ears are adorable; I do remember seeing them posted on Facebook. Too too cute and a way fun tradition. Hope Dane is feeling better soon!
An Easter to remember! The hats look fabulous, and the photos capture some great moments - poor Dane in the car, the boys jumping off the porch, and the mass focus on egg-decorating!
Will the next post include the news coverage of the measles victim of Utah county?
Reading your brunch menu made me hungry too, I bet you have some delightful stories of how each treat came to be included.
